Chaudhry Tariq Bashir Cheema is a Pakistani politician and the Secretary General of PML. He has been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan since June 2013. Cheema began his political career as an activist for the student wing of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in 1980. He was elected to the Provincial Assembly of Punjab as a candidate of PPP in 1993 General Elections. During his tenure, he served as Provincial Minister of Punjab for Food and Agriculture. In 2001, he became the District Nazim of Bahawalpur and was elected for a second straight time in 2005. In 2004, he left PPP to join Pakistan Muslim League (Q). He was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan as a candidate of PML-Q in 2013 General Elections. He was re-elected to the National Assembly as a candidate of PML in 2018 Pakistan’s General Election. On 18 August, Cheema was named the Minister for States and Frontier Regions. On 6 September 2018, his ministerial portfolio was changed to Federal Minister for Housing and Works. Cheema now serves as the Federal Minister for Food Security in the Cabinet of Shahbaz Sharif.
